Two Nigerians make rundown of 50 shortlisted educators for $1 million worldwide instructor prize


Two Nigerian teachers have been shortlisted for the global teacher prize coming up in March 18, 2018.

Ayodele Odeogbola who teaches at Abeokuta Grammar School, Ogun state, and Itodo Anthony who teaches at Gateway Excel College, Otukpa, Benue state, are the Nigerian teacher that made the list of 50 shortlisted teachers. The prize, which was conceived in 2013, was put together by Varkey Foundation with the aim of rewarding one exceptional teacher who has made an outstanding contribution to the profession as well as to shine spotlight on the important role teachers play in the society.

The prize comes with a monetary reward of $1 million for one out of the 50 shortlisted teachers, The Cable reports. 30,000 nominations and applications were received from 173 countries from around the world, out of which 50 were shortlisted The winner will be announced by Varkey Foundation at the Global Education and Skills Forum in Dubai on March 18, 2018.
