Bill Gates plans to announce a $1.7 billion investment
Marking a new chapter in education philanthropy, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation will step back from its traditional education reform agenda to instead invest close to $1.7 billion over the next five years on new initiatives that include a focus on building networks of schools.
“Education is, without a doubt, one of the most challenging areas we invest in as a foundation,” Bill Gates is expected to say Thursday during a speech at the Council of the Great City Schools’ annual conference in Cleveland, according to prepared remarks. “But I’m excited about the shift in our work and the focus on partnering with networks of schools.”

FG to tackle examination malpractice
The Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu, on Thursday said the Federal Government would soon tackle the menace of examination malpractice in the country.
Adamu gave the assurance at the maiden edition of a two-day West Africa Examination Council (WAEC)’s International Summit on Examination Malpractice in Lagos.
Candidates now bring guns to exams halls – WAEC
The Registrar, West African Examination Council (WAEC) Dr Iyi Uwadiae, has raised alarm that some private candidates writing its examinations have devised notorious acts of drugging supervisors while some even bring guns to examinations halls.
Uwadiae raised the alarm at a briefing in Lagos to announce the convocation of an international summit on examination malpractice between October 19 and 20, 2017.
According to Uwadiae, while the examination body will not be requesting permission from government to arm its personnel, it has nonetheless become expedient to cry out to let the populace understand the danger the examination body and its supervisors are facing from candidates who are hell bent in perpetrating examination malpractices.
