Unity Schools are not really what they used to be – Wilbert


Mr. Lawrence Wilbert,Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Agilent Wireless Limited, Mr. Lawrence Wilbert, who was recently elected President-General of Unity Schools Old Students Association,USOSA, discusses his plans for the body with emphasis that the objectives behind the establishment of the institutions are still germane today.

Wilbert, who sits on the board of other companies including GenielNG Communications and Potters and Law also relishes his experience as a student of one of the unity schools in the 1980s.

Unity schools: I’m an engineer and  into Telecommunication System Integration.  I did further training in Telecommunication and Computer Networking. I attended Federal Government College,  Ugwolawo, Kogi State.

West African universities should produce graduates who will meet the needs of the entire sub-region


The registrar made the appeal in a paper he presented at the Sixth Annual International Conference of West Africa Universities at the Universite Cheikh Anta Diop, Dakar.

JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede “Our universities must be made not to limit their visions to the production of graduates capable of meeting only the needs of their various nations (markets.) ”The challenges of trans-border research have been identified to include the differences in the education systems in the sub-region, weak internal assessment mechanism and superficial external quality assurance system.

NUNS partners with ASUU


The National Union of Nigerian Students,  NUNS, has sided the ongoing ASUU strike, saying that’s the only action the Federal Government respects. Speaking with Vanguard yesterday  (Sunday), its Chief Press Secretary, Amb Ibrahim Olawale Seriki said: “Since our government understands no diplomacy but radical approach , then let the ASUU strike press home the repositioning of education in this country.

Reiterating NUNS commitment to the struggle of ASUU, Seriki explained that ASUU decision at every time has always been to reposition education in Nigerian. He said: “Considering the state of university education in our dear country, every sane citizen will definitely fault ASUU if they remain silent or refuse to act in rescue our education system.
