The Chartered Financial Institute, in collaboration with the British Council in Nigeria, has begun the delivery of the CFA exams in Nigeria.
The exam, usually held outside the country, berthed in Nigeria recently at the Landmark Event Centre in Lagos, with over 800 candidates.
According to the President of the CFA Institute, Mr Paul Smith, the development is long overdue because of logistical reasons.
“It’s logistical, really. It was a question of trying to make sure we found a secure venue, the right venue and the right support from the British Council to organise things. It took a little bit of planning to make sure the exam materials were got securely through customs and it just took us a couple of years to organise and get it right,” he said.
The CFA Institute is one of the leading professional bodies for the global investment management industry and it awards the CFA credential, which is held by over 150,000 professionals around the world. In Nigeria, over 2,000 chartered financial analysts got their certifications from neighbouring countries.
The Country Director, British Council Nigeria, Lucy Pearson, said, “Through our exams business, we provide educational, professional and life-changing opportunities through globally recognised qualifications. These will enable people to work, study, build career prospects and promote personal development.

Teachers In Prison For Using Cane On Students
Residents of Okota area in Lagos expressed shock and rained curses on a man, Chief Enekwa, for ordering the arrest of three teachers including the school proprietress, for using cane as a corrective measure on his two children.
The incident happened at a popular school known as Altitude International School located at Ebie Street in Ago, Okota area of Lagos.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the police at Gender Section of the Command arrested and charged the proprietress and three teachers before court for allegedly using cane as a corrective measure on the two kids in the school.
The suspects were Alhaja Romota Abass, 61, Obialor Nkechika, 37, Wale Emmanuel, 26 and Robert Emmanuel, 36.
It was gathered that Chief Enekwa, the father of the two pupils aged between 8 and 10, went to the police and reported that the teachers caned his children against his wish and he wanted them to be arrested and prosecuted.
The police then went to the school, arrested the owner of the school, Mrs Abass, three other teachers and detained them at the Command for child abuse.
They were later charged before Ikeja Magistrates court for the alleged offence.
They pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Mr. Benson Emuerhi did not oppose their bail condition.
Thus, the Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O Sule-Amzat granted them bail in the sum of N20,000 with two sureties in like sum.
They were remanded in prison custody pending when they will perfect their bail condition.
The matter was adjourned till 12 July, 2018.
When P.M.EXPRESS contacted Chief Enekwa who resided at 34 Mukandasi Street in Ago, Okota, Lagos, he declined to make comments but claimed that he had withdrawn his children from the school and wanted justice.
However, the incident had attracted so much reactions as the residents insisted that Chief Enekwa had a hidden agenda to blackmail the school management over the school fees of the victims. One of the residents was heard saying that he did so in order to extort money from the management and was using the police to execute his plan.

Tech Education: Not for drop-outs
Technical education has been identified as the way forward from Nigeria’s economic quagmire. According to an expert, technical education is that knowledge needed by students to enhance the manufacturing of goods for export and domestic use.
Executive Secretary of Lagos State Technical and Vocational Education Board, LASTVEB, Mrs. Omolara Erogbogbo, lamented that while many countries of the world have embraced technical knowledge, our country is still being persuaded to do so. Speaking during an interactive session with the media in Lagos, she said: “The economic progress of the nation greatly depends on its industrialisation.” Erogbogbo who urged states of the federation to key in, noted that the Lagos State Government, which is the economic hub of the country, has since established 10 technical schools.

With baby in tow, 24-year-old single mom graduates from Harvard Law School
Not many 1-year-olds can say they attended a graduation—and in Harvard Law School, at that.
Little Evelyn, dressed in a toga and an academic cap, earned her spot to be at the commencement exercises: after all, she had attended some classes with her mom, 24-year-old Briana Williams.
Williams, a single mother, was teary-eyed and beamed brightly as she carried Evelyn after receiving her Juris Doctor degree.
“I went into labor in April—during final exam period. I immediately requested an epidural so that my contractions wouldn’t interfere with my Family Law grade,” she said. “And, with tears in my eyes, I finished it.”
“Some days I was so mentally and emotionally fatigued that I did not leave my bed,” she admitted.
The logistics of having an infant and studying was a challenge, and at times she would leave her baby in a stroller at the Dean of Students’ office to attend class. Otherwise, “Evie” sat in with her.
