JAMB directs all institutions to end 2017 admissions by Jan. 25


The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) on Thursday directed all tertiary institutions to end their 2017 admission by January 25. The Board’s Head of Media, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, disclosed this in an interview with newsmen in Abuja.

Benjamin said the board’s decision came after a meeting where all issues and ones bordering on the admission process were taken into consideration.

Anti-open grazing law will enable herdsmen’s children acquire education – Bishop Aveya


Bishop William Aveya of Gboko Catholic Diocese in Benue has said that the anti-open grazing law passed by the state government would enable children of herdsmen to acquire education.

“Open grazing makes it impossible for the children of herdsmen to acquire education because they remain in the bush chasing cows.

“If the herdsmen embrace ranches, the children will be less busy with the cattle and have more time for education which is very crucial to a better future,” Aveya told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), in Gboko on Monday.

Katsina State Gets New Commissioner Of Education


Katsina Governor, Masari Sacks Education CommissionerThe Katsina State Governor, Bello Masari, has sworn in Badamasi Lawal Charanchi as the new Commissioner of Education.

Swearing in of the new commissioner is an effort to address the lingering decay of the public education sector in Katsina state.

The state governor charged him to change the culture of the huge idle manpower at the education ministry.

Until his appointment, Charanchi was the special adviser to the governor on higher education.

Govt alone cannot fund education in Nigeria – Senate


Image result for senateThe Senate Joint Committee on Education (Basic and Secondary) and Health on Monday in Abuja called for increased private sector participation in the education sector.

Chairman of the Committee, Sen. Aliyu Wamakko made the call during a public hearing to investigate the outbreak of epidemic which affected 39 students and led to the death of three students of Queens College, Lagos in 2017.

He said: “It is so sad that we believe that government alone should take full responsibility of education in the country.

“The society particularly the private sector has a role to play to make the education sector grow.

Ebonyi Govt. closes schools to check spread of lassa fever


The Ebonyi Government on Thursday ordered closure of  all public and private schools in the state to check the spread of lassa fever that broke out in the state recently.

Prof. John Eke, the Commissioner for Education, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), in an interview in Abakaliki, that the closure was part of proactive steps taken to contain the spread of the disease in the state.

According to him, government embarked on the measure to effectively control and contain the spread of the dreaded lassa virus which had claimed some lives including two medical doctors.

China Promotes Online Education


Image result for china educationThe main bunch of 490 national quality courses are accessible online for people in general, as per an Educational Official on Monday.

The courses concentrated on basic educational programs for undergrad training and higher professional instruction, proficient fundamental courses, and expert center courses, said Wu Yan, leader of the Department of Higher Education with the Ministry of Education, at a public interview.

Around 70 for every penny of the 490 courses are given by China’s top of the line colleges, including Peking University, Tsinghua University, and Wuhan University.

Rise in pupils caught with phones during exams…


Related imageRising numbers of penalties are being handed out to school staff and students for exam malpractice, official figures show.

Ofqual data also showed a rise in the number of pupils taking mobile phones into tests.

New statistics reveal a 149 per cent hike in penalties issued to teachers and other workers, while the numbers for pupils rose by 25 per cent.

Malpractice covers anything that could “undermine the integrity of an exam”, according to regulator Ofqual.

Edo Government to prosecute parents for denying children access to education
