Education gets N620.5bn against UNESCO’s advice


The executive summary of the proposals, according to The Punch check on Thursday in Abuja, showed that the education sector got N620.5bn (about 7.05 per cent), marginal raise over the total of N605.8bn budgeted for the sector in 2018.

Over some years, the country’s funding for education continued to rotate between five per cent, six per cent and seven per cent of the national budget.

UNESCO Promises Support For Nigeria’s Education System


The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) on Tuesday reassured Nigeria and other member states of its commitment to reforming the Education and Information, Communication Technology (ICT) system.

Mr Yao Ydo, Regional Director, UNESCO, made the promise in Lagos on Tuesday at the maiden edition of the Association of Communication Scholars and Professionals of Nigeria (ACSPN) Eminent Persons Strategy Series.

UNESCO calls for accountability and transparency


The United Nations Organization for Education, Science and Culture (UNESCO), Tuesday in Paris called on governments to design accountability and transparency for schools and teachers, adding that governments should set up independent institutions to handle complaints emanating from the sector.
